Warrenmang Vineyard and Resort
“A Passion For Excellence”
THE RESORT & RESTAURANT
Warrenmang Vineyard and Resort is one of the best-known and innovative ventures in the Pyrenees region and widely accepted as Victorias leading vineyard restaurant / resort hideaway. Its multi faceted approach embraces the idea of 'wine tourism' wholeheartedly with an impressively balanced blend of warmth and elegance. This is perhaps reflective of the Italian heritage of its visionary founder and proprietor - Luigi Bazzani.
Luigi grew up in the city of Parma, right in food and wine heartland of Italy. As a young man he set off to pursue a career in the hospitality industry, working in some of London's finest hotels and restaurants. It was there that he met his Australian wife Athalie. They returned to Australia and together set about the business of establishing award winning restaurants in Ballarat and Bendigo.
Their induction into the wine industry began in 1977 when, as part of a plan for an early retirement, they purchased Warrenmang vineyard from its original owner, Wally Henning. Wally was a pioneer of the Pyrenees wine region's 'renaissance' that began in the early 1960's. He owned extensive vineyard plantings around the Moonambel area but sold the majority of them to French-American businessman John Goelet who founded Taltarni in 1974.Wally kept his favoured portion of land (200 acres on the edge of the estate) for himself. He described it as “The jewel in the Pyrenees crown” and named it Warrenmang.
The first commercial vintage from the estate vineyard was in 1978. As the vines started to produce quality fruit, Luigi began the task of producing wines which, today compete with the elite of the Australian wine industry. By the mid 1980's the wines had begun to generate a strong following, particularly the Estate Shiraz and their flagship ‘Grand Pyrenees' Cabernet blend.

Luigi's intense passion for excellence in food and wine soon turned the wine venture into an even more serious undertaking. His entrepreneurial vision and pioneering spirit saw the possibility of expanding Warrenmang to include a luxury resort complete with five star restaurant which was named inaugural winner by the international organisation Great Wine Capitals of the World, with the 2003 Award for Excellence.

With the inimitable Bazzani flair behind it, Warrenmang Vineyard Resort became a shining light as a tourist destination and has received a string of awards and accolades from around the world. In 2008 Luigi was inducted as an official “Legend” of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. With a host of accolades, Warrenmang Vineayrd and Resort has been rated by the leading Australian newspaper “The Age” as “outstanding” and rated 19/20. It is featured in Gourmet Traveller's Guide to top Australian restaurants and has been recommended by The Age Good Food Guide for 18 years.
The restaurant and resort focus on customer comfort and indulgence. Luigi's enthusiastic passion for the hedonistic pleasures of great food, wine and luxury coupled with his naturally Italian style of making guests feel welcome and at home help create a wonderful place to get away and get spoiled. Using the best possible ingredients for the restaurant's renowned menu is important “We try to use local produce” Luigi Says, “Getting great food from the region and getting it fresh are among the secrets of Warrenmang's success” Seasonal fruit and nuts for deserts etc. are often sourced from the trees of local residents and the estate's own orchard.
Luigi insists on adopting a very personal and hands on with both the resort and the winery. He enjoys taking his guests on winery tours “I tell them the history of the complex, we try wines out of the barrels. I get an enormous pleasure out of it and the people enjoy it. You can't get that very personal experience in the big wineries of the Barossa and other places.”
